Everest Ladders
Custom ladders manufactured for use as crevasse bridges in the Khumbu Icefall on the ascent to Mount Everest.

We produced 100 aluminium single-section ladders to support crossings in one of the most hazardous parts of the South Col route. In this constantly shifting environment, ladder positions must be adjusted regularly to maintain safe passage.
Project Overview
- 100 single-section aluminium ladders manufactured
- Used as bridge crossings over deep crevasses in the Khumbu Icefall
- Deployed and repositioned by Sherpas and mountain guides as ice movement changes routes
- Used on the key access route between Everest Base Camp and the South Col ascent line
Why This Environment Demands Robust Equipment
The Khumbu Icefall is an unstable glacier zone where melting and movement create rapidly changing conditions. Equipment used here must be strong, reliable, and capable of performing in extreme terrain.
Construction Specification
- Heavy-duty oval-section aluminium stiles
- Round, deeply serrated rungs for secure footing
- Mill-finish aluminium construction
- PVC end caps
Mount Everest is named after Colonel George Everest, who was born in Crickhowell, near our factory in South Wales.
